The famous Norwegian ensemble Jo Strømgren Kompani is coming to Beirut with a performance that deals with international conflicts, in an everyday setting. The date of the international première is set to the 29th of April.
"A society of sworn coffee drinkers gather for their daily ritual. However, the harmony is broken by a horrific incident- the discovery of a used teabag. How far are the coffee drinkers willing to go to track the traitor down, smoke him out and bring his evil to justice?"
Jo Strømgren Kompani tries to create a ridicoulously small scale conflict in order to find a pshycological pattern in human behaviour, related to big international conflicts. Depending on the situation, a used teabag can have the same dimensions as a twin tower blast.
" The Society" mixes theatre with dance and live music. The main element on stage is a coffe machine, but also a lot of coffee cups and interrogation tools.
The ensemble is invited by the Lebanese festival BIPOD - (Beirut International Festival of Dance) and the Maqamat Dance Theatre.
Jo Strømgren Kompani is a well recognized ensemble that has won several awards. It was founded in the Norwegian city of Bergen, and has been travelling with a considerable repertoire in more than 40 countries. It is one of Scandinavias biggest stabile independent companies.
