H.E Ambassador Svein Aass

H.E Ambassador Svein Aass arrived in Beirut Tuesday May 31st 2011.

Ambassador Aass has had a long and varied career in the Norwegian foreign service. He started as an attaché in 1976, and was appointed as the Embassy

Secretary in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1978. Since then he has been posted to Paris, Washington, New York and Teheran. Ambassador Aass has worked for a total of ten years in the World Bank in Washington DC, and had his latest posting abroad as the Executive Director and Representative for the Nordic and Baltic countries for the organization between 2004-2009. For the last couple of years Ambassador Aass has been working as a senior advisor on Global Finances for The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs. His career also includes postings as the Ambassador and Special Advisor for Environment and Development, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent mission of Norway to the UN in New York and the Norwegian Ambassador to Iran.

Ambassador Aass’ educational background includes a doctorate in Development Economics from Sorbonne University in France, and a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Oslo. He was also a Fulbright Scholar at Brandeis University, Massachusetts, USA.

Ambassador Aass is accompanied by his wife Purbilien Aass. They have three children.
